The name Thomas Aigelsreiter is hardly suitable to use as a signature
for comic strips. So, Thomas Aigelsreiter became AUGE. None of his
portrait photographs leaves any doubt about his range and depth. The few
pictures that exist of him, invariably with dark glasses and baseball
cap, show AUGE under very bright light, seemingly far removed from his
Viennese roots, looking at worlds far away. A reminiscence of the great
seafarers of the Austro-Hungarian empire who sailed the world’s oceans?
Or plain genius, who searches continuously for new shores. AUGE is the
youngest of the Milk designers, with a renown that reaches far beyond
Austria’s borders. Broadly influenced by the Franco-Belgian style he
created his own monument with the comic-strip character ›Roy Klein‹, “a
bold fusion of the American style of storytelling and the French Ligne
Claire” that almost unhinged the art history of the comic strip. After
his training as a graphic designer he became a self-taught Special Make
Up Artist at the Vienna Film Academy. He became a much sought-after
draughtsman for agencies and worked for prestigious companies such as
Hewlett-Packard, Nestlé, Minolta, Sony – and now for Milk. The latter
does him credit, since AUGE is allergic to milk. In spite of that, he
conjured up two fantastic ideas on glass, two Milk designs that will
jointly go into Milk history as a Limited Edition.
