Born in Cairo in 1960, Designer in Toronto and New York, CAN/USA.
 

While everybody else in the neighbourhood was watching TV, the members of the his family drew portraits of each other — training for Karim Rashid, who after a turbulent childhood trained in Canada. He gained a scholarship which permitted him to move to Italy where he worked for E.Sottsass and G.Pesce. Back in Canada, he received many design awards and became quite famous. Subsequently, he settled in New York. To push the technically feasible to the limits in order to discover new areas even for everyday tasks — that is Rashid’s concept. His glass for Ritzenhoff plays with double meanings — the lettering is more than decor: messages from "American hip-hop inner-city circles." Stay cool.
